A local woman is accused of animal cruelty for leaving a dog inside a hot car, reported the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department. Alisha Johnson, 27, of Newport, was cited to appear in Orleans Superior Court to answer to the charge of animal cruelty. According to a report by Deputy Jeremy Cotnoir, someone reported a dog inside a parked vehicle in the Derby Walmart on May 11. The caller was concerned about the welfare of the dog because of the temperature. Deputy Cotnoir responded and determined Johnson was the one who left the dog inside the vehicle.
