One of the suspects allegedly involved in a gang shooting has reached a plea deal

One of the suspects allegedly involved in a gang shooting in Newport City has reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors on a drug charge.

Michael “Chappo” Alamo Jr., 23, of Hartford, Conn., was accused by police of being one of four men involved in the shooting of Dante “Pops” Flowers Sr., 44, in the Waterfront Plaza parking lot on Nov. 30, 2020.

Alamo was later charged by federal authorities for allegedly conspiring with others to distribute drugs in Vermont, leading Orleans County State’s Attorney Jennifer Barrett to dismiss state charges against Alamo.

“The state is deferring to a federal prosecution,” wrote Barrett in her dismissal of the charges.

On March 14, a plea agreement between Alamo and the government was filed in U.S. District Court in Burlington.
