Staff at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility found an inmate unresponsive in his cell

ST. JOHNSBURY — Staff at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility found an inmate unresponsive in his cell on Sunday and despite medical aid the man died. Dustin Dunkling, 29, had been living in St. Albans on probation for a conviction of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. A report by Detective Trooper Christopher Pilner shared Monday afternoon notes that Dunkling’s probation was revoked on March 24. An online report notes Dunkling was 19 when he pleaded guilty to the charge. Trooper Pilner stated Dunkling died by suicide. He was found in his cell about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. He was alone and was unresponsive when staff checked on him. The manner of Dunkling’s death is pending an autopsy at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington. Vermont State Police began an investigation into the death of the inmate. This death is not considered suspicious at this time.
