Two of Vermont’s statewide office holders will not be seeking reelection.
Democratic Attorney General T.J. Donovan announced Thursday he would not seek reelection to the post he first won in 2016. On Wednesday, State Treasurer Beth Pearce announced she would not seek reelection after she was diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer.
Donovan said that after 16 years as an elected official and 19 years in public service it was time for him to pursue other opportunities.
Donovan said he tried to do what he thought was right during his career.
On Wednesday Pearce told reporters she had planned to run again in the fall, but changed her mind last month after her cancer diagnosis. She said she needs to focus on her health.
