Vermont State Police cited a Barton woman for a crime of cruelty to a child, stating the woman left a child alone outside to wait for the school bus. Christina Hoadley, 32, was ordered to appear at Orleans Superior Court on May 3 to answer to the charge. A report by Trooper Nathan Handy notes that police learned shortly before 8 a.m. on Thursday that a child was seen walking alone on Route 5 in Barton. Police found the child, who Trooper Handy reported as under 10 years old, and had emergency medical services evaluate the physical condition of the child due to cold temperatures. The trooper noted that it was determined Hoadley had sole custody of the child and that she had left the child alone to wait for the school bus.
