86% of current renters in the U.S. want to buy a house but can’t afford one

MANCHESTER, N.H. — A recent CNN poll found that 86% of current renters in the U.S. want to buy a house but can’t afford one. More than 54% worry they will never become homeowners as prices continue to rise. While the housing market remains steady, it still feels out of reach for many. According to the New Hampshire Association of Realtors, the median sales price for June was $538,000, up 7.8% from the previous year. As a result, the number of closed sales dropped by 13.5% over the same period.
