The man accused of shooting three college students of Palestinian descent in Burlington last fall was back in court

The man accused of shooting three college students of Palestinian descent in Burlington last fall was back in court Friday arguing that he should have new legal representation. Jason Eaton has been in jail for the last eight months after police say he shot three young men as they walked on the sidewalk by his apartment. The crime took place just after the start of the war in Gaza. All three survived, but one was seriously injured. Eaton is not facing a hate crime charge right now, but he is facing three attempted murder charges.  Eaton Friday asked Judge Kevin Griffin for new attorneys and for the hearing to be closed to the public. However, the judge denied both motions. Eaton addressed the court and listed a multitude of reasons why he should get new lawyers. But Judge Griffin told Eaton that wasn’t going to happen right now. At one point during the hearing, Eaton also asked Judge Griffin to allow him to represent himself. Griffin responded that he would not make a decision like that on the fly and encouraged Eaton to submit a motion to the court. Eaton is still being held without bail and is due back in court in November.
