The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investing nearly $18 million to strengthen rural infrastructure in Vermont and New Hampshire. The funding is part of a larger $6.3 billion investment across 44 states to expand access to clean and reliable electric grids, provide safe drinking water and create good-paying jobs. Projects in Vermont and New Hampshire got about $18 million dollars. Some of that money is earmarked for projects including $11 million for the Washington Electric Co-op in Montpelier which serves about 12,000 customers. The money will help improve lines and connect new customers.
