A Wolcott woman has been cited to appear on charges

A Wolcott woman has been cited to appear on charges related to alleged embezzling from two Hardwick nonprofit organizations. Representatives from the Northeast Kingdom Arts Council (NEKarts) and the Hardwick Downtown Partnership (HDP) filed complaints with the Hardwick Police Department on February 19. Police say a bookkeeper for both nonprofit organizations, Laurel Schoop, 69, allegedly used her check signing authority to write 65 checks to herself between October 2024 and January 2025. The total of funds allegedly owed to the two organizations is $8,866.19. Schoop will be arraigned at the Caledonia Superior Court.
