Community meeting to discuss potential Burke Mountain ownership change
Town officials on Monday evening encouraged attendance for an upcoming meeting called by a group interested in buying Burke Mountain. Green Mountain Ski Partners, LLC invited the public earlier in the day for people to attend a meeting on Friday “to Discuss Ownership Plans at Burke Mountain Resort.” Near the conclusion of their meeting on Monday, Selectmen raised the topic of the Burke Mountain purchasing effort to be discussed later this week. Green Mountain Ski Partners identifies itself as a “winter resort company comprising experienced
professionals in ski area operations, hotel management, and real estate development.” Todd Firestone is quoted in the statement as the partnership’s managing director. He promotes the meeting as an opportunity for community members to discuss the resort’s future. According to the release, the partnership was formed to acquire and operate Burke Mountain Resort. They’ve been involved in the effort for three years. The resort is under the control of federal receiver Michael Goldberg of Florida and has been since 2016 after the SEC charged former owner Ariel Quiros and manager Bill Stenger with running a Ponzi-like scheme and misusing $200 million raised from EB-5 investors. Green Mountain Ski Partners’ statement of invitation to the meeting on Friday notes a sales effort supported by community engagement.
