Former Vermont Trooper Trial Ends with Hung Jury in Theft Case

The trial for a former Vermont trooper accused of stealing cash and other items from locked police storage ended with a hung jury. Giancarlo DiGenova is accused of stealing $342 in cash, a cellphone, charger and a knife from the Berlin state police barracks in 2022. Prosecutors say he sold the items to buy Adderall. In Washington County court on Monday, prosecutors say the trial ended with a hung jury after about an hour of deliberations. There’s no word yet on whether there will be a future trial date. DiGenova pleaded guilty last year to stealing $40,000 worth of personal property seized by police in a previous case. That items, including a Rolex, were taken from the Williston barracks evidence locker. He was sentenced to community service and fined in that case.
