NASCAR Legend Scores $5,000 Prize For Groveton High School
NASCAR legend Mark Martin took the checkered flag, and Groveton High School took home the check.
Martin defeated Gov. Kelly Ayotte on Sunday in a simulated race, earning $5,000 for Groveton High School.
Martin and Ayotte were randomly assigned to represent Groveton and Somersworth high schools, respectively.
The schools were selected from more than 600 entries in a New Hampshire Lottery Facebook contest earlier this summer.
Groveton was fortunate to draw Martin, a 2017 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee and winner of 40 Cup Series races. His last Cup Series victory came at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2009.
Although Martin won the race for Groveton, the New Hampshire Lottery also surprised Somersworth High School by awarding it $5,000.
The lottery presented $5,000 checks to Patricia “Patty” Brown, executive director of SAU 58 and representative of Groveton High School, and Michael Blouin, principal of Somersworth High School.
The virtual race was hosted by the New Hampshire Lottery prior to the NASCAR Cup Series’ Dollar Tree 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
