GoFundMe Launched For Former Colebrook Coach Buddy Trask

A GoFundMe campaign for former Colebrook boys basketball coach Buddy Trask has raised more than $31,000 since launching late last week, as community members rally to support him and his family following a serious hit-and-run crash in Canaan, Vermont.

Trask was released from the intensive care unit at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, late Monday and moved into a shared room, according to an Oct. 27 update shared by Littleton Chevrolet. His family is hoping he can move to a private room soon.

Trask, 71, was struck about 1:15 p.m. Oct. 12 while standing beside a guardrail along Vermont Route 114 near Wallace Pond, according to the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. He was flown by DHART to the hospital for treatment.

The tractor-trailer did not stop after striking Trask. The unit was later located in Norton and stopped by the sheriff’s department, which took custody of the vehicle and obtained a search warrant. Sheriff Colby has said the investigation remains ongoing and that he is not ready to identify the driver.

Trask suffered extensive injuries, including a severed aortic artery that required emergency surgery, a collapsed lung, a broken shoulder blade and collarbone, fractures to every rib on his right side, a broken ankle and compound fractures of his left tibia and fibula. His family also reported a fractured vertebra and kidney damage.

The latest update said Trask is scheduled for a second surgery on his leg Wednesday to complete the procedure and check that the injury is healing properly. The family described it as his final planned surgery. Doctors have determined that his remaining broken ribs can heal without further surgery.
