Brighton man now faces additional charges for alleged acts

Jailed while awaiting resolution of charges connected to alleged behavior more than a year ago, including domestic terrorism, a Brighton man now faces additional charges for alleged acts committed in the same period in the same area. Avery Buchman, 65, is at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury and has been held there since being arrested in Aug. of 2022. He remains there for lack of $10,000 bail after pleading not guilty to charges of domestic terrorism, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, simple assault with fluids on a law enforcement officer, possession of fireworks without a permit, noise in the night, unlawful mischief and 3rd-degree arson for allegedly setting a gas can on fire next to his neighbor’s house on Gideons Mill Road.  State Police went to the correctional facility to cite Buchman for new charges of possession of destructive devices, possession and use of explosives, burglary, possession of stolen property and unlawful mischief. The criminal behavior is alleged to have also occurred in August 2022.  The case is currently in the discovery process and no trial date has been set. As for the new charges, an arraignment date of Nov. 21 has been set.
