A Norwich man was hospitalized in Hanover as a result of an October 21 single-vehicle crash on I-91 north. Jeffrey Egner, 34, of Norwich sustained unknown injuries from the 1:33 a.m. crash in rainy conditions. His vehicle was totaled when investigation revealed Egner had been traveling at a high rate of speed while traveling north on Route 5. As a result, Egner lost control of his Subaru Crosstrek and traveled across both lanes before crashing into the median between Route 5 and Interstate 91. Troopers from the St. Johnsbury barracks discovered the crash had originated from Route 5 in Fairlee. Egner was extracted with the help of Fire and EMS personnel, and subsequently transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock. The crash is still under investigation as police say alcohol is believed to be a factor.
