A burglar smashed his way into a gun display case at Wrights Sport Shop
A burglar smashed his way into a gun display case at Wright’s Sport Shop in Derby on Monday night and grabbed 10 handguns. Vermont State Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the male responsible for the burglary. State police and Newport Police were alerted to the crime by an alarm triggered at the store. A male wearing an oversized zip-up hoodie, Muck-style boots, a mask on the lower portion of his face and sweatpants used a large pry bar to force open the front door of the store. Inside the store, surveillance footage shows the male smashing a display case containing dozens of handguns. He can then be seen placing 10 of the guns inside a reusable grocery bag. The male then flees the scene with the grocery bag of stolen handguns. The store was closed on Tuesday as a result of the crime. Anyone with information about the incident or the stolen property, is urged to contact the State Police Derby Barracks at 334-8881 or leave an anonymous tip online at https://vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit
