A Derby man pleaded not guilty to charges of luring a child and possession of child sexual abuse material
A Derby man pleaded not guilty to charges of luring a child and possession of child sexual abuse material on Tuesday. Jason Benn, 35, was arraigned on the felony charges in Orleans Superior Court. The Attorney General’s Officer reported that Benn is alleged to have engaged in sexually explicit conversations with a 13-year-old child. The child disclosed the conversations to another person, who reported what was said to law enforcement. The Internet Crime Against Children Vermont division also received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children relating to a suspect uploading a file of child sexual abuse material to Snapchat. Based on the criminal investigation of that tip, Benn was identified as a suspect. Benn appeared for arraignment before Judge Justin Jiron who released Benn on conditions that include restrictions on contact with children and access to the internet.
