A judge has ordered the accused killer in a 30-year-old Vermont cold case
A judge has ordered the accused killer in a 30-year-old Vermont cold case to be under house arrest as he awaits trial. Carroll Peters, 70, is accused of killing his estranged wife, Cheryl, in 1993. Cheryl Peters was found dead in her Morrisville home, shot execution-style. Police earlier this fall took a fresh look at the case and brought prosecutors information to charge Carroll Peters with the murder. During a recent hearing, a judge decided the 70-year-old could be released while he waits for his trial. He was being held behind bars but a judge Friday signed off on allowing him to be on house arrest at a home on Fitch Hill Road in Hyde Park. He can only leave for doctor appointments, court hearings, and meetings with his attorneys. His bail of $200,000 still stands.
