High winds toppled trees and powers lines across our region

While the remnants of Debby didn’t bring any major flooding, high winds toppled trees and powers lines across our region. Winds proved to be stronger than expected, and with a saturated ground, trees were more easily uprooted. The wind gusted to 60 mph in the Champlain Valley. Rainfall ranged from 1 to 3 inches for Vermont and New Hampshire, to 3 to 6 inches for New York. As of Saturday morning, more than 20,000 people were without power in Vermont, the majority in Chittenden, Addison, Orleans, and Franklin Counties. According to Green Mountain Power, crews have already worked to restore more than 35,000 customers. Crews have made substantial progress with the help of external crews, who arrived in Vermont yesterday morning.  Any flooding concerns have subsided, as all rivers that rose Friday and into Saturday morning are expected to continue receding.
