Massachusetts woman with little to no experience operating a snowmobile died
New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say that a Massachusetts woman with little to no experience operating a snowmobile died from injuries suffered in a snowmobile crash in Berlin, N.H. Stacey McGarry, 56, of Littleton, Mass., was operating a snowmobile she rented from Northeast Snowmobile and ATV Rentals in Gorham. N.H. on Tuesday on Corridor 12 when the crash occurred. Officials reported that a passenger on the snowmobile who was unharmed in the crash said the snowmobile was heading west on the trail when McGarry failed to make a right hand turn. The snowmobile left the trail and struck a rock, which caused the snowmobile to go airborne throwing the passenger off the sled, but the snowmobile then struck a tree. McGarry stayed with the snowmobile to the point of impact. Berlin Police officers were first on scene. They attempted lifesaving measures until members of Berlin Fire Department and Berlin Ambulance EMS personnel arrived. It is believed that the victim had limited or no previous snowmobiling experience. At this time, it appears that speed and inexperience are the leading factors in this crash.
