Northeast Kingdom Human Services’ urgent care facility is now open in Newport

Northeast Kingdom Human Services’ urgent care facility is now open in Newport, it’s called the Front Porch. The group has spent the last two years trying to get a location for the space up and running. Right now, it is open 16 hours every day and eventually will be open 24 hours every day. The state has allocated $2 million to the project for renovations, along with clinicians on staff available at any time. The organization says this space was needed as there isn’t an urgent care facility in the Northeast Kingdom. “Because it’s remote, there aren’t as many services as other areas of the state. Then, you may have to go as far as Brattleboro,” said Northeast Kingdom Human Services Executive Director Kelsey Stavseth. The new  facility will house people for 2-10 days while seeking treatment or trying to find additional services.
