NY Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Vermont Hospital Killing
A New York man tied to a murder at a Northeast Kingdom hospital learned his fate on Wednesday. Jerry Ramirez was sentenced to 10 years in prison with credit for time served. Ramirez shot and killed Vincent Keithan, 44, in the parking lot of NVRH in 2022. Police said they believed the murder was drug-related. Ramirez was originally charged with second-degree murder but that was reduced to manslaughter as part of a plea deal. It comes after a key witness in the case died which significantly impacted the state’s case against Ramirez. The judge says the sentence may not be justice for the family, but he urged Ramirez to think deeply about his actions. Keithan’s family spoke in court on Wednesday saying they didn’t agree with the plea deal and urged the judge to impose a harsher sentence.
