Police say the owner of a dog that jumped from a moving vehicle and was fatally struck by another car is now faces charges of animal cruelty. Police say “Ace,” a 5-year-old German shepherd, jumped out of a moving pickup truck on Interstate 89 in Hartford on Friday and was hit by a car. His owner didn’t stop. Witnesses rushed the dog to Save’s Emergency Care in Lebanon but he later died of his injuries. The dog’s owner, Adam Howard, 33, of Leicester, North Carolina, had Ace leashed in the bed of his pickup truck. When police caught up with Howard, he told them he didn’t realize the dog had slipped out of his collar and jumped out.
