Several area schools are waiting to learn how their communities were impacted by a data breach at a school software provider that serves schools across the country. Local school administrators began notifying families and school staff of the data leak last week. The incident involves PowerSchool SIS, a student information system serving thousands of school districts and millions of students nationwide. School personnel are still working to determine the extent to which local information may have been leaked, which could be determined partly by how much information the schools collected and entered into the database. Some national coverage of the incident indicates that some information accessed included student Social Security Numbers, medical records and grades, and details on teachers and staff. Impacted local districts include, but are not limited to, St. Johnsbury School District, Caledonia Central Supervisory Union, Kingdom East School District and White Mountains Regional School District, are a few that sent alerts to school communities.
