St. Johnsbury Police warned residents and businesses of a recent influx of counterfeit
St. Johnsbury Police warned residents and businesses of a recent influx of counterfeit currency passed in town. The fake bills have been in multiple denominations, and while they look real at a glance, they have all displayed “REPLICA” on them, and they feel different than normal bills. St. Johnsbury Police Capt. Jason Gray said the first report was received on June 19; three more incidents came in on Monday, June 24. So far, they have collected numerous $1s, $5s & $10s from across town, and he suspects there are likely more fake bills that have been or will be used. “They look real but they don’t feel like real money at all,” said Gray, who noted the fake dollars have a silky feel. He said the replica bills are often used in movie productions, and they all have the exact same serial number, regardless of denomination. “Use caution when passing and receiving currency,” the police announced in their alert.
