St Johnsbury Town Meeting Approves Spending Requests and School Board Election Results
St. Johnsbury voters gave a thumbs up to all spending requests during Town Meeting voting Tuesday and elected Brittany Benoit Petty to the school board in the only contested race on the ballot. In results provided by Town Clerk Stacy Jewell shortly after polls closed, the school budget passed by a vote of 663 to 483. In the race for a 2-year seat on the school board, Petty defeated Callahan Beck by a vote of 558 to 453. She will join Kelsey Stavseth, who was the only candidate for a 3-year seat, as new members on the school board. The general fund budget passed by a vote of 772 to 352. The highway fund budget passed by a vote of 852 to 283. The special services district fund budget passed by a vote of 483 to 133. An article requesting approval of a $2,765,000 bond to pay for a water project along Bay Street was approved by a vote of 856 to 266. Voters also approved the slate of special appropriation requests totaling $336,890 from 20 different organizations.
Town Moderator Dave Reynolds opened the meeting by noting this year’s town report was dedicated to the late Edward Zuccaro, a longtime attorney in St. Johnsbury, who had served as the town agent from 1972 to 2020.
