State Police addressed complaints about a man engaging in reckless behavior. Trooper Ryan Butler determined Robert Bender, 53, of Peacham, had committed crimes of disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment. The trooper reported that “numerous complaints of a vehicle operating in a reckless manner” a few minutes before 9:30 a.m. in the area of Mack Mountain Road and Church Street. According to the trooper’s report, witnesses said Robert Bender drove his vehicle through an area crowded with people gathered for festivities celebrating Independence Day. “Bender drove around a stopped vehicle, traffic cones and a citizen directing traffic,” Trooper Butler noted. “He then began yelling at people, revving his engine and driving through the road in a reckless manner with multiple people in close proximity.” Hundreds of spectators lined both sides of the roads on the parade route. Bender was issued a citation to appear in Caledonia Superior Court on Aug. 12 for arraignment.
