The Waterbury Selectboard held an emergency meeting last night
The Waterbury Selectboard held an emergency meeting last night to hear plans for a shelter for homeless families with kids set to open on Friday. It comes following the winding down of the state’s hotel-motel program, which last month resulted in families with at least 21 children losing their rooms. A shelter for 10 families will open Friday at the Waterbury Armory. Community leaders say the announcement on Monday took them by surprise and that they have questions about who will staff the shelters and other rules. The Scott administration is also working to set up shelters in Rutland, Montpelier, and Williston, but finding a provider has been a challenge.
