Three Survive Small Plane Crash on Mount Equinox
Three people survived the crash of a small plane on Mount Equinox in Bennington County on Wednesday morning. Authorities say the crash of the plane was first reported by the pilot at 8:33 a.m. First responders trudged through up to four feet of snow and reached the crash site near the 3,848-foot summit at 10:16 a.m. They found three victims who sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. A New York State Police helicopter was dispatched to the site and evacuated the victims. One of them was later airlifted to a hospital in Albany and the other two were taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock. There was no immediate information on their condition. Upward of 100 first responders from Vermont and New Hampshire took part in the rescue and authorities say all of the snow and the open terrain near the summit likely contributed to the lack of serious injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
