Three women were taken to NVRH on Monday afternoon
Three women were taken to NVRH on Monday afternoon when the car they were in was struck by a dump truck at the Railroad Street and Concord Avenue intersection. Tia McLeod, 19, of St. Johnsbury, could not be removed from the vehicle by CALEX Ambulance crew members until St. Johnsbury firefighters used a hydraulic tool to open her door as it had been smashed in by the dump truck. Also taken to NVRH were her passengers, Kayla Mcleod, 23, of St. Johnsbury, and Aaliyah Ramsay, 18, of St. Johnsbury. McLeod’s Optima was entering the intersection from Sand Hill on the west side just as Richard Cleveland, 65, of Irasburg, was entering the intersection driving a Freightliner dump truck, south on Railroad Street. The occupants of the car said they had a green light, and Cleveland said he entered the intersection when his light was yellow. Tire marks from the truck indicate that the dump truck braked for more than 30 feet, and Cleveland said he tried to stop before making contact with the car. Cleveland was not injured.
