Newport Police Department arrested a woman

Newport Police Chief Travis Bingham reported Friday that the Newport Police Department arrested a woman for cruelty to a child, among other charges. Fawn-Marie Hall, 36, of Newport, was arrested Friday and charged with assault, cruelty to a child, first-degree aggravated domestic, and violation of Title 13 VSA. The incident began on December 13 at 12:01 a.m., when Newport Police responded to a home on Pleasant Street for a report of two people arguing. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to several individuals who stated that Hall engaged in an argument with a neighbor and threw an alcoholic beverage at him. Newport officers learned that Hall allegedly had been forcing a 16-year-old juvenile to ingest a household detergent mixed with alcohol almost daily. Hall was arrested and transported to the Newport Police Station for booking, and the Department of Children and Families was immediately notified. The juvenile was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and has since been released. Hall was held without bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon in Orleans Criminal Court.
