Officials have confirmed that a Border Patrol agent was shot

Officials have confirmed that a Border Patrol agent was shot and killed in Coventry on Monday afternoon. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the shooting happened during a traffic stop mid-afternoon. It was also reported that there were at least two suspects in the vehicle stopped by the agent and one of the suspects is dead. Sources say the suspect was in the country illegally. Interstate 91 between exits 26 and 27 was closed in both directions in response to the emergency. It remained that way until just after 5 p.m., when the northbound lane was opened to traffic. A spokesmen for the Vermont State Police said the department is providing support to federal authorities. The FBI is now leading the investigation.
