Police recently returned to the property on Portland Street
Police recently returned to the property on Portland Street where Scott Mason was found and arrested as the suspect in the Dec. 13 shooting of Capt. Jason Gray, but this time, it was for a dog rescue. Officer Jasmine Hendry went to 251 Portland St. after learning a dog was living in unhealthy conditions. She was shown photos of the dog and a confined living space. The officer entered through a side door and found the dog upstairs. There was no one inside. She said the dog, whose name she learned is Dexter, was in a small and confined area that was cluttered with trash, dog feces, dog vomit and other items. Officer Hendry removed the dog. She said he was calm, compliant and eager to get outside. He was then taken to a shelter where he is getting good care, the officer said. She learned that the apartment was occupied by Cody Heath-Largy, 29, and that the dog belonged to him. On Wednesday, she located him at the Caledonia Courthouse and cited him for criminal animal cruelty. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Caledonia Superior Court on Feb. 24.
