A Coventry man was arrested Saturday after allegedly assaulting a household member

A Coventry man was arrested Saturday after allegedly assaulting a household member, striking a Vermont State Police cruiser while fleeing the scene, and driving recklessly across multiple locations in Orleans County. Jacob Roy, 29, was taken into custody in Newport after a brief search and is facing multiple charges, including second-degree aggravated domestic assault, reckless endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident. Troopers responded to a residence on Nadeau Park Road in Coventry at approximately 1:38 p.m. for a report of a possible assault. Upon their arrival, Roy fled the scene in a vehicle and, while exiting the driveway, struck a state police cruiser, causing minor damage. An initial search of the residence found no other individuals inside. Investigators later spoke with the complainant, who alleged that Roy had injured a household member. Authorities determined that the assault occurred at multiple locations along roads in Brownington and Barton. Roy, who has a prior domestic assault conviction from 2018, was also found to have been driving at excessive speeds, further endangering the vehicle’s occupants. He was located hiding inside a residence in Newport by officers from the Newport Police Department and was taken into custody without further incident.  Roy was transported to the State Police Derby Barracks for processing and later lodged at the Northern State Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.
