Plaistow Woman Killed by Amtrak Train While Trying to Rescue Dog on Tracks in Exeter
EXETER, N.H. — A Plaistow woman was killed and another person injured Monday afternoon when they were struck by an Amtrak train while attempting to rescue a dog from the tracks, police said. The incident occurred at approximately 3:24 p.m. on June 2 in a wooded area near the Newfields Road trestle in Exeter, according to local authorities. Exeter Police and Fire/Rescue responded after train personnel reported the collision.nPolice said Alicia Leonardi, 42, of Plaistow, was walking along the tracks with a companion and an unleashed dog when an Amtrak train approached around a bend. At the sound of the train’s horn, the dog reportedly ran onto the tracks. Both individuals tried to retrieve the dog and were struck. Leonardi suffered fatal injuries, while the man accompanying her sustained minor injuries. Exeter Police are working in coordination with Amtrak Police and CSX Police as the investigation continues.
