Regional Facilitators Named To Lead School Merger Study Process
Vermont’s most ambitious school governance review in over a decade is about to get underway; a Vermont Agency of Education official has been named to help lead Northeast Kingdom districts through a yearlong examination of merger possibilities culminating in potential Town Meeting Day votes in 2028.
Former Vermont Deputy Secretary of Education and former Acting Secretary of Education Heather Bouchey has been selected to guide local school districts through the merger study process required under Act 170. Before joining AOE in 2015, Bouchey served at Director at the Leahy Center for Rural Students at Lyndon State College.
The Vermont Learning Collaborative announced Bouchey’s appointment Friday; it is overseeing the statewide merger study process and was charged with hiring a lead facilitator and seven regional facilitators to guide it. Under Act 170, all Vermont school districts have been assigned to regional study groups tasked with examining whether larger, unified governance structures could improve educational opportunities, financial sustainability and operational efficiency. While every district must participate in a study, the law does not require districts to merge.

The North Country Falcon Football team dropped a hard fought contest on Friday night to Bellows Falls 56-49. The Falcons will travel to Woodstock this Friday night to take on the Wasps. Kickoff at 7pm.
The North Country girls soccer team beat People’s Academy on Saturday 2-1. The lady falcons are 2 and 1 on the season and will take on undefeated Lake Region Lady Rangers on Tuesday night. The Lady Rangers beat Oxbow 4-0 on Saturday to improve to 2-0-1… The Lake Region boys soccer team dropped it’s game to Stowe on Saturday by a score of 2-1 and will return to action against Spaulding on Sept. 15th.
