Veterans Town Hall Planned In St. Johnsbury
Vets Town Hall, a Vermont-based nonprofit, will bring 10 community storytelling events to Vermont and New Hampshire November 6-15, in partnership with local organizations. The event comes to St. Johnsbury at 1 p.m. on November 8 at Catamount Arts on Eastern Avenue.
Everyone, including those with no personal ties to the military, is encouraged to attend and listen. At each Vets Town Hall, any veteran is invited to speak about their military service and how it has affected them. At the Family Vets Town Hall, immediate family members of veterans and service members are invited to speak. These events are free and nonpolitical, and all perspectives are welcomed.
The series includes stops in Barre, Bennington, Brattleboro, Charlotte, Rutland, South Burlington, Wilmington, and Hanover, N.H. Vermont Humanities and the Vermont Veterans Fund support the events in part.
“The stories shared at these events are as varied as the veterans who share them,” says Kristen Eaton, deputy director of Vets Town Hall. “This is a way for Vermonters, whatever their views on US foreign policy, to support veterans as individuals. The veterans who speak are our neighbors, colleagues, friends, and family members. Attending a Vets Town Hall is a chance to learn about some of the experiences that have been meaningful to them.”
