White Mountains Regional High School Gets New School Resource Officer

White Mountains Regional Middle-High School will have a new school resource officer this year, as Alan Demoranville takes over a position that has been part of the school for more than 20 years.

Demoranville, a former Whitefield police sergeant and Bethlehem police chief who currently works part-time for the Whitefield Police Department, began as the school resource officer Monday, Aug. 31, according to Town Administrator Mike Lee.

The announcement came during the Whitefield Select Board’s Aug. 24 meeting.

Bob Loiacono, chair of the White Mountains Regional School Board, said the board and school administration believe having an SRO remains important, including at the elementary schools that feed into the regional high school.

“The sooner the kids have familiarity with the police officers, the better,” Loiacono said.

White Mountains Regional serves students from five communities: Carroll, Dalton, Jefferson, Lancaster and Whitefield. This school year, seventh- and eighth-grade students who previously attended the elementary schools in Whitefield and Lancaster moved to the high school building.

Selectman Shawn White said the SRO position has been a valuable resource since the school began using one.
