Fox Museum Honors Area First Responders

The Rev. George L. Fox Memorial Chapel & Museum held its first First Responder Appreciation Ceremony on Saturday, September 26, bringing together first responders from communities throughout the region for a morning dedicated to recognizing their courage, compassion and service.

Representatives of Concord Fire Department, Lunenburg Fire Department, Dalton Fire Department, Whitefield Fire Department, Grafton County Dispatch, Lunenburg Rescue, Twin Mountain Fire Department, Beecher Falls Fire Department and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department were honored during the ceremony.

One representative from each participating department or agency received an appreciation medallion on behalf of their unit. Fox granddaughters Lisa Hirbour and Susan Fisk presented the medallions on behalf of the Rev. George L. Fox Memorial Chapel & Museum.

The ceremony opened with welcoming remarks from Chairman Bob Rice, who also led the Pledge of Allegiance. Lisa Bechok sang the National Anthem, setting the tone for a ceremony centered on service and sacrifice.

The gathering continued with a responsive reading led by Reverend Piper and the assembly. Those gathered reflected on the commitment of first responders who answer the call when others are in danger, including the words, “We have gathered to give thanks for those who run toward danger so that others might live in safety.”

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will square off tonight in game 1 of the American League Wild Card series at Yankee stadium. Payton Tolle will take the mound for Boston against the Yankees Cam Shlittler. Game 1 of the Best of 3 series starts at 8 o’clock tonight. Other Wild Card action today will feature the Chicago White Sox taking on the Houston Astros, the Atlanta Braves hosting the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs traveling to San Diego to take on the Padres.

And in local sports…

The North Country JV football team beat visiting Lyndon last night by a score of 27-7. The boys were electric on offence and stout on defensive as the total team effort was the difference in the win. The JV Falcons will travel to Montpelier next Monday night to take on the Raiders of U-32. Kick off at 4pm.

The North Country Falcons soccer team will host Spaulding tonight at 4:30pm while the Lake Region boys soccer team will travel to Harwood to take on the Highlanders. Kick off at 4:30pm.
