Burke Mountain Builds On first season Under Local Ownership
The work reflects the resort’s new owners’ push to revive the mountain and secure its future.
Bear Den Partners LLC bought the resort for $11.5 million in May 2025. The purchase ended years of uncertainty and federal receivership after a development project tied to former owner Ariel Quiros collapsed.
Since then, the new owners have focused on snowmaking, overdue repairs and guest improvements. They have also pledged to preserve the mountain’s local character.
Burke said the new ownership and its addition to the Indy Pass network helped drive last winter’s increase in skier visits. More than half of Indy Pass visits came on weekdays and other off-peak days, helping boost business at the Burke Mountain Hotel.
Burke offers reciprocal pass benefits with Smugglers’ Notch Resort. Its season pass also includes two free days at Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Massachusetts and Catamount Mountain Resort in New York.
The resort has added 100 high-efficiency snow guns and upgraded its electrical system to improve snowmaking, according to the resort. Work has focused on Warren’s Way, McCargs, Little Dipper and Lower Willoughby.
Those projects build on a larger overhaul that began last year. In fall 2025, crews installed new snowmaking pipe, added snow guns and upgraded pumps. The resort also introduced technology to help track snow depth and guide snowmaking.
