The Town of St. Johnsbury is taking over the operation of its wastewater plant
The Town of St. Johnsbury is taking over the operation of its wastewater plant. The plant had been operated by a contractor and the town was pleased with their work. But after looking into the possibility of running it themselves, the town learned that it could save up to $150,000 a year. “Up until Saturday, we have a contract with a company called ‘H2O Innovations,’” said Town Manager Chad Whitehead. “On Saturday, the town is taking over the operations of the treatment plant. Not continuing the contract with them. We’ll have our own employees running the wastewater treatment plant.” The town has hired six new staff members but they are all current H2O employees. “The staff that runs the wastewater treatment plant are becoming town employees,” said Whitehead. “H2O Innovations done a great job and I have no problem making recommendations for anybody to utilize them. It’s just a matter of savings for the town.” The town will also have to purchase two pick-up trucks to equip the staff so they can maintain the plant and operate in the community.
