A woman on Portland Street with two active arrest warrants took a chunk out of a police officer’s arm. Joanne Mitchell, 32, of Lyndon, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of felony aggravated assault on a police officer and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and false information to a police officer. St. Johnsbury Police Capt. Jason Gray was dispatched on Oct. 13, at 8:49 a.m., to a report of a woman lying on the ground behind a fence at 390 Portland Street. “I responded to 390 Portland St. and found a female lying on the ground in a semi-fetal position as if she had fallen into that space,” wrote Capt. Gray in his report. “She had personal items (including a glass pipe) that were scattered around her.” Police said Mitchell also has 22 misdemeanor convictions in Vermont and three felonies and that five of the convictions are assault. Mitchell also has eight failures to appear.
