Autopsy determined that a man from Newport Town died when he was stabbed in the chest

State Police reported that an autopsy done at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office determined that a man from Newport Town died when he was stabbed in the chest. Donald Coull, 58, was at his home at 107 Lawson Road when he was stabbed to death in the afternoon on Monday, Christmas Day. According to police, the stabbing followed an altercation with Trevor Stone, 39, who was also suffering from wounds created by a knife. He was treated at North Country Hospital and released. Stone resides in a camper on the Lawson Road property. The investigation is ongoing and officials are not saying if charges against Stone related to Coull’s death are being contemplated. “A ruling on the manner of (Coull’s) death is pending further investigation and toxicology testing, which can take from several weeks to several months,” a VSP statement notes. State police indicates that the altercation was an isolated incident limited to Coull and Stone.
