The Lamoille Valley Rail Trail is finally open for winter use

The Lamoille Valley Rail Trail is finally open for winter use after it was damaged in this summer’s flooding. Several sections of the trail were decimated just days before it was scheduled to fully open to the public. The Vermont Agency of Transportation says those sections are now labeled as “rough”, but they are open. They warn people using the trails should use caution until there is more snow. Hardwick Town Manager David Upson says the reopening of the trail is a big deal for the local economy. “That always brings riders from out of the area, staying locally, gassing up, going out to eat. So, it’s definitely a boost for our economy,” Upson said. The 93-mile rail trail runs from Swanton to St. Johnsbury and is the longest multi-season recreational trail in New England.
