A person who died in a Hardwick house fire last week was the homeowner. Elsa Mulholland, 73, was found deceased inside her residence at 41 Brush St. by firefighters battling a fire there on May 9. The fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. Hardwick Police, the Hardwick Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded to the emergency. Firefighters encountered a fully-involved structure fire when they arrived. Greensboro and Woodbury firefighters responded to help extinguish the blaze. The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated by the Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit and the Vermont Division of Fire Safety. The police report notes that the cause of the fire is not considered suspicious.
