Leakage After Fix Requires Further Waterline Repair, Another System Shutdown in St. J

ST. JOHNSBURY — A broken waterline repair on Bay Street, completed overnight on Sunday, that required a system-wide water stoppage.

The break, discovered on Sunday afternoon, required a full shutdown of the water system. Repair crews responded, located the break, and drained the damaged area to perform the line repair.

About 10 a.m. on Monday, Town Manager Chad Whitehead got a call from Gray informing Whitehead that there was a leakage in the system.

Public works returned to Bay Street and discovered that the fix didn’t take. Based on the alignment of the pipe sections, the connection wasn’t secure. The repair also required another system shutdown.

Whitehead said he is confident the second repair will resolve the issue because the public works crew located fittings to address the pipe-to-pipe deflection.

With the return of water, all users on the system will be under a Precautionary Boil Water Order. It will remain in effect until further notice from the town; it usually lasts two days after the water is restored following a repair.
