Northeast Kingdom Walk Raises Over $73,000 For Alzheimer’s Research

ST. JOHNSBURY — Participants in the 2026 Northeast Kingdom Walk to End Alzheimer’s heard personal stories Sunday from people who have cared for loved ones with dementia and learned about recent advances in Alzheimer’s treatment.
Organizers said the event has raised $73,487, or 67% of its $110,000 goal. Donations will be accepted through the end of the year.
Nancy Poulos, a volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association who hosted the event, said she spent 10 years caring for her mother through the disease.
“Alzheimer’s didn’t just take my mom’s memories. It slowly took the person I had known and loved all my life,” she said.
Poulos said the Northeast Kingdom walk is among the highest per capita of roughly 600 Walks to End Alzheimer’s held across the country.
Participants raised colored flowers to show their connection to Alzheimer’s disease. Poulos said she hopes a white flower will one day be added to represent the first Alzheimer’s survivor.
