Planning Commission Approves Town Plan Update, Forwards To Select Board For Second Hearing

The Planning Commission has approved a draft update to the Burke Town plan and voted to send it to the Select Board for a required second public hearing, marking a key step in bringing the community’s long-range blueprint back into compliance with state law.

Commissioners held a public hearing Aug. 28 to review proposed edits to the 74‑page plan, last updated in 2017, which guides policy on land use, infrastructure, energy, housing, education, economic development and flood resiliency.

The document also helps the town qualify for state and federal grants and technical assistance, including Community Development Block Grants, Municipal Planning Grants, Bicycle and Pedestrian Grants and brownfield redevelopment funds, and is required for any zoning bylaw amendments.

At the close of the hearing, the commission agreed to clean up the identified errors, improve graphics and add the North Pasture parking reference, then forward the draft to the Select Board with a recommendation that it be adopted after a second public hearing, tentatively targeted for Sept. 14.

Patrick Sandoval lasted 4 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits in the loss. The Red Sox will hit the road today for their 4 game series in Baltimore against the Orioles. Jake Bennett will take the mound tonight for Boston. First pitch at 7:15pm.

The North Country Girls soccer team got a big victory over Enosburg Falls last night by a score of 6-0 for their first win of the season. The Girls will host Peoples Academy on Saturday at North Country High School at 11AM.

The Lake Region Lady Rangers soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie against Missisquoi Valley on Wednesday. The Ranger ladies will travel to Oxbow on Saturday to take on the Olympians at 11AM.
