President Biden granted clemency to a Vermont man linked to a 2018 drug-related homicide

Before leaving office, President Biden granted clemency to a Vermont man linked to a 2018 drug-related homicide in the Northeast Kingdom. 42-year-old Michael Anthony Hayes of Lyndonville will be discharged by the summer. Hayes was sentenced in 2022 on felony drug charges in connection with the death of 37-year-old Michael Pimental, who was found dead in Concord in 2018. According to federal court documents, Pimental was involved in a heroin ring with then-girlfriend Krystal Whitcomb. Eight people ended up being charged in connection to the incident. The president reportedly offered the clemency without checking with prosecutors. Hayes is one of nearly 2,500 federal inmates whose sentences were slashed by Biden.
