Some central Vermont schools are taking steps to ditch diesel buses

Some central Vermont schools are taking steps to ditch diesel buses.  White River Valley Supervisory Union added three electric buses to its fleet. Stockbridge, Sharon, and Newton schools each will have one bus charging station. Student Transportation of America Representative Rachel Lane says the EV buses are beneficial to the environment because they don’t have any tailpipe emissions, producing cleaner air for the communities they pass through. “The drivers like them because their buses are quieter, so it keeps the kids a little quieter on the buses, and it helps with behavior, so it’s a positive riding experience for everybody,” Lane said. While the future of federal funding for EV buses is up in the air, Lane says if it continues, she can see more and more districts opting for EVs. Though she says it is tough to get the charging infrastructure in everywhere, there are several enthusiastic districts who are looking to move in this direction.
